Our Turkish coffee Coffee Cake is the BOMB ~ Hannah, Barista
We have been open a few months now, and all secretly have our favorites from the case as we grow our product line, little by little.
When we started, we were obviously heavy on baklava and borek because those were the main food anchors drawing people in. Now that we have more cooks in the kitchen, we have been able to branch out with more cakes, savories, and puddings.
I took the time last week while we were all gathering for monthly meeting to ask everyone what their latest favs were.
The biggest win right now is the Turkish coffee Coffee Cake. Not only is it Gluten free like all our other cakes, but it is layered with our Turkish Coffee, chopped espresso beans and dark chocolate. The crumb and texture of this cake would fool any glutenous lover into thinking this was regular flour!
My own personal favorite addition to the case is the Lemon Curd Crumb cake (GF). When we first made it, the whole cafe just smelled like lemon. Give me anything with lemon and that makes me happy, so this new cake hit it out of the park with a home run.
What has been fun is to put new things in the case and have customers been surprised to see on a fresh Saturday morning. One such surprise is Asure, Noah’s ark pudding. Asure is a slow cooked barley pudding-ish dish that has slow cooked barley, dried apples, dried cherries, dried figs, apricots, cannelloni beans & chickpeas, slivered almonds w cinnamon and clove w a hint of sugar. Topped with fresh pomegranate seeds, ground pistachios and apricots, it is a light alternative to a heavy dessert that is too sweet.
Our last big fav for our staff picks is our Baklava Pull-aparts. We ruffled the filo dough into individual portion muffin sized pans, drizzled butter and topped it with a milk and eggs to form a custard in the ruffled layers. It is DIVINE! We warm it up for you, dust it with cinnamon and powdered sugar and it just melts in your mouth. No nuts, just lots fo yummy gooey goodness w a flakey crunch!
