Today we say goodbye to 2023. 2023 tiptoed in gin

Today we say goodbye to 2023.

2023 tiptoed in gingerly, trying to gets its footing.

Now, 2023 is Galloping into 2024.

We had quite the hurdles to overcome, but we did and thriving more than just surviving.

I was talking to Jo yesterday and she said that it has been beautiful to watch me regain control of the reins and see the cafe blossom into what it’s always meant to be.

We are finishing our last week of 2023 with the highest growth and sales we have ever seen and that is because of all of you coming in, bringing your friends and family to visit.

You have been so patient with all of us as we have been navigating the crowds, the drinks, the food.

You have indulged us when we had to give you spoons to eat your Börek because we were out of forks.

You stepped in to help us fill our water in our samovars and tea.

You stepped in to help us dig out of dishes.

Family means helping each other and being understanding.

Thank you for being part of our family!

We love and appreciate you all!

May your new year be as sweet as baklava & that you know you have the strength of Turkish coffee to get thru anything!

½ cup whole grain wheat or pearled barley
⅓ cup chickpeas
⅓ cup dry white beans
2 oz. almonds
2 oz. dried apricots
3 cloves
1 apple
2 oz. raisins
2 oz. dried figs
1 teaspoon salt
1 cinnamon stick
½ cup milk
1 cup sugar (or ¼ cup / 80 g honey)

These little bulgar buttons are made with bulgar, garlic and served in a tomato-y sauce. I grew up with Mom making these during the winter.. They can be a nice satisfying alternative to the meat filled dumplings but still have all the warm flavors.
